History

Our History Curriculum

At Northlands our history curriculum is broad, balanced and rich; inspiring in pupils a curiosity and fascination about Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We want our children to be inquisitive learners, and to be enthused by and immersed in history, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also through 'history off the page days' and educational visits.

Our ambition is that all children will be taught, and encouraged to use, the skills of thinking critically, weighing evidence, sifting through arguments, asking perceptive questions and developing perspective and judgement in order to put historical events into context and we believe that the progressive development and refinement of these skills enable the children to succeed at secondary school and beyond.

We dedicate two hours each week to the teaching of Topic, at least an hour of which is devoted exclusively to History.
